Our Story

The Dalkeith Singers are a welcoming community choir at the heart of Dalkeith, bringing together voices from across Midlothian and beyond through a shared love of music.

What began as a small evening class has grown over the years into a thriving community choir, evolving into the group you see today — a place where people of all backgrounds and experience levels come together to sing, learn, and perform.

In 2024, we were proud to celebrate our 50th anniversary — a milestone that reflects not only our longevity, but the generations of singers who have been part of the choir’s journey.

What We Sing

Our repertoire spans the richness of the choral tradition — from classical and sacred works to lighter and more modern pieces — all performed for the joy of singing and the enjoyment of our audiences.

We enjoy the variety and challenge of singing in different styles and languages, exploring everything from well-loved choral works to contemporary favourites.

Our Community

Today, we are a mixed SATB choir of around 60 members, united not just by music, but by a genuine sense of community.

Whether you’ve sung for years or are just discovering your voice, you’ll find encouragement, support and a shared sense of purpose here.

For us, choir is about more than singing the right notes — it’s about friendship, shared purpose, and the joy of making music together. Whether we’re rehearsing, performing, or enjoying tea and cake at the break, there is a real sense of belonging at the heart of what we do.

Our Patron

We are delighted to welcome the Earl of Dalkeith, Walter Dalkeith, as our Patron.

A passionate photographer, Walter has long been fascinated by the artistic possibilities of the medium, particularly within the natural world. His work explores not only the physical beauty of landscapes, but also the more intangible qualities of nature — the sense of joy, wonder, peace and rejuvenation it can inspire.

As Patron, he brings that same artistic curiosity and appreciation for creative expression to the choir. He has been a strong supporter of the choir’s recent growth, particularly following its resurgence after the pandemic, recognising the increasing membership, ambitious performances, and continued development of the group.

We are proud to have his support as we continue to grow and to play our part in developing Dalkeith as a vibrant centre for the creative arts in Midlothian, Edinburgh and beyond.

Looking Ahead

At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: that singing together is something special. It challenges us, brings us together, and creates moments that stay with us long after the final note.

As we look to the future, we are excited to continue building on our strong foundations — welcoming new members, exploring new music, and sharing our love of singing with our audiences.
